Being involved in politics is not an easy task. While you do get the power and the honour to serve your nation, every little thing about your life gets magnified. Not only this but sometimes things get so heated that you start to receive death threats. However, sometimes, these threats don’t just remain threats. In this blog, I will list all the assassinated American presidents.
These USA presidents unfortunately were assassinated during their tenure and it was a major setback for the whole nation.
President Abraham Lincoln
Out of 4 assassinated American presidents, the first is Abraham Lincoln. He was the 16th president of the USA. He is widely considered to be one of the best ever presidents to ever take oath. A few of his biggest achievements were leading the Union to victory in the Civil War and abolishing slavery. Unfortunately, President Lincoln was the first assassinated American president.
He was assassinated by actor John Wilkes Booth on the 14th of April 1865. John Wilkes Booth was a supporter of the Confederates and opposed the Union. President Lincoln and his wife Mary Todd Lincoln were watching a play at the Ford Theater, Washington DC when Booth shot the president in the head.
President James A Garfield
James A Garfield was the 20th President of the USA. His story of a poor boy becoming the President of a country is widely regarded as the perfect example of the American Dream.
Unfortunately, just 4 months after being appointed President, James A Garfield was assassinated by Charles J Guiteau. Charles was a delusional man who thought he was the reason for James’s victory.
After being rejected for the position of European Counsel, He shot President James A Garfield in the back and arm. Unfortunately, the President receive a lot of false treatments which then led to his untimely demise.
President William Mckinley
William Mckinley was the 25th President of the USA. He has widely been considered to lead to victory in the Spanish-American war, getting control over Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Cuba. Also, he has been credited with getting America out of depression.
Furthermore, he was assassinated by Leo Czolgosz on the 6th of September 1901 in Buffalo, New York. He was shot twice in his stomach at close range. Although Leo’s motives were said to be political, there is still no clarity as to what was his motive for assassinating President William Mckinley.
President John F Kennedy
John F Kennedy was the 35th President of the USA. He was the youngest elected president at the time and has been credited with leading America in the Cold War. John F Kennedy was also credited with rebuilding US Special Forces and Navy SEALs.
President Kennedy was assassinated on the 22nd of November 1963 in Dallas Texas. He was in a presidential motorcade at the time. Lee Harvey Oswald shot the president from the 6th floor of a building en route in the motorcade.
Before his motives could be known, Lee Harvey was killed by Jack Ruby. It is however widely assumed that Lee Harvey Oswald had defected to the Soviet Union during the Cold War.
Final Words
Although considered to be one of the safest jobs in the world, being the president of the USA is not an easy job. (Reading about these assassinated American presidents makes it clear.) There is always a risk of international and domestic forces targeting your life. Despite having the best security and medical help available, things can always go wrong.
Despite all this, there is no bigger stage where you can work for and lead your country to bigger and better pastures.
